2014 Impact Factor 15.84

Translational medicine, the process in which basic research moves from discoveries in the laboratory to actual clinical applications, is an important new field in science that requires collaboration across multiple disciplines.

Science Translational Medicine provides a forum for communication and idea exchange among basic, translational, and clinical research practitioners and trainees from all relevant established and emerging disciplines, linking basic scientists and clinical researchers to improve patient care worldwide.

Science Translational Medicine will help improve the multidirectional process where basic research informs clinical research, and clinical research informs basic research. Research originating in the lab will now find its beneficial expression in patient cures.

  • Original, peer-reviewed, science-based research that successfully advances clinical medicine toward the goal of improving patients' lives (three to five research articles per week)

  • Research and commentary on models of human disease with significant implications for disease treatment

  • Investigative studies of human biology with an emphasis on disease, including small clinical trials

  • Perspectives and reviews on research topics that discuss the implications of the findings from a basic science and clinical point of view

  • Surveys of recent significant translational research findings from other publications

  • Commentary on policy, funding, and regulatory issues

  • Plus special issues featuring comprehensive reviews and in-depth analyses of current topics in translational medicine; an online multimedia center including Podcasts and videos
