- Anti–PD-1 antitumor immunity is enhanced by local and abrogated by systemic chemotherapy in GBM
Local chemotherapy synergizes with immunotherapy against glioblastoma, whereas systemic chemotherapy abrogates its antitumor effect.
- Adenylyl cyclase activating polypeptide reduces phosphorylation and toxicity of the polyglutamine-expanded androgen receptor in spinobulbar muscular atrophy
Adenylyl cyclase activating polypeptide modifies androgen receptor phosphorylation and spinal and bulbar muscular atrophy pathogenesis.
- Detection of prions in the plasma of presymptomatic and symptomatic patients with variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease
A sensitive blood diagnostic assay can identify patients with variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease before symptoms appear and during the clinical phase.
- Detection of prions in blood from patients with variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease
Prions can be detected in blood from patients with variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease with high sensitivity and specificity.
- First-in-class inhibitor of the T cell receptor for the treatment of autoimmune diseases
A novel inhibitor of interactions between signaling proteins in T cells demonstrates promising preventive and therapeutic effects in several models of autoimmune disease.
Technical Comment
- Comment on “A small-molecule antivirulence agent for treating Clostridium difficile infection”
New insights into the mechanism of action of ebselen, a small-molecule antivirulence agent that reduces disease pathology in a mouse model of Clostridium difficile infection, suggest a different molecular target may be responsible for its efficacy.
Technical Response
- Response to Comment on “A small-molecule antivirulence agent for treating Clostridium difficile infection”
Ebselen’s antivirulence activity in Clostridium difficile infection is likely due to multiple modes of action, but the contribution of each to its efficacy remains unclear.

T memory stem cell phenotype induced by tethered IL-15 augments anticancer effects of CAR T cell therapy.
About The Cover

ONLINE COVER Choreographing a New Routine to Treat Cancer. The image shows different treatments for glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor, and the way that these treatments interact with each other. Mathios et al. evaluated the effectiveness of anti–PD-1 immunotherapy given before or after local or systemic chemotherapy in mouse models of glioblastoma. Combining local chemotherapy with immunotherapy was effective, whereas systemic chemotherapy did not combine well with anti-PD-1 treatment. The combination was ineffective when systemic chemotherapy was given first, the way it is often done in the clinic, suggesting the need for more systematic design of combination therapy strategies.
