ONLINE COVER Treatment for Sphingolipidoses Heats Up. Boosting expression of the molecular chaperone Hsp70 with the drug arimoclomol improves disease symptoms in a mouse model of the lysosomal storage disorder Niemann-Pick type C (NPC). Kirkegaard et al. show not only improvements in systemic disease symptoms but also rescue of Purkinje cell death in the cerebellum of the mouse brain (cover image, red). Boosting Hsp70 expression with arimoclomol may be a useful therapeutic strategy for treating NPC and other types of lysosomal storage disorders (sphingolipidoses) for which there are few treatment options.
