ONLINE COVER Growing the Brain and Forming Connections. Abnormal connection patterns in the human brain have been implicated in multiple disorders, including autism and other developmental problems as well as adult-onset diseases such as schizophrenia and Alzheimer's disease. In this week’s issue, Thomason et al. use functional MRI to show how the networks of brain connections develop in utero during healthy pregnancies, laying the groundwork for the understanding of abnormalities that may arise during later development. The cover shows an anatomical MRI view of a typical 30-week-old fetus. [CREDIT: M. THOMASON/WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY]
