ONLINE COVER A Monkey Wrench in an Emerging Infectious Disease. Shown is an African green monkey (Chlorocebus sabaeus) in the wild in Africa. Henipavirus infection in African green monkeys results in a lethal respiratory and neurological disease that closely mimics infection in humans. Bossart et al. developed a recombinant subunit vaccine for henipaviruses based on the henipavirus attachment G glycoprotein. Vaccinated monkeys were completely protected against subsequent Nipah virus infection, paving the way to develop this vaccine for humans. [CREDIT: WHIT WELLES/WIKIMEDIA COMMONS]
