ONLINE COVER Mapping Metabolities. Magnetic resonance imaging maps out regions of heightened metabolic activity in the human brain, with a brain tumor (glioma) exposed in red. Two articles in this issue describe the use of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy to noninvasively detect the presence of a cancer-associated metabolite, 2-hydroxyglutarate, in the brains of patients with glioma.
