About The Cover

ONLINE COVER Mapping SARS-CoV-2 Mutations. This illustration depicts the phylogenetic relationships among SARS-CoV-2 strains traced to different geographic locales within and beyond Austria, an early international hub for SARS-CoV-2 transmission. Integrating viral genomics and national contact tracing data from Austria in the spring of 2020, Popa et al. tracked the spread of mutations in epidemiologically defined infection clusters, examined intrahost virus evolution, and estimated the SARS-CoV-2 transmission bottleneck size. This study provides a high-resolution picture of virus mutation dynamics and disease spread in an early hotspot of SARS-CoV-2 infection. [CREDIT: JAKOB-WENDELIN GENGER, BERGTHALER LAB/CEMM]
