ONLINE COVER Breast Tissue's Next Top Model. Shown is a representative human breast tissue section from an individual with high serum progesterone levels. Many of the progesterone receptor (PR, red) positive cells show detectable receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa B ligand (RANKL, green) expression, whereas nearly all of the RANKL positive cells coexpress PR (DAPI counterstain is blue). These data are consistent with data derived from a three-dimensional model using fresh breast tissue microstructures, which support the hypothesis that the progesterone/RANKL axis is an important proliferative stimulus in the human breast (Tanos et al., this issue).
