ONLINE COVER Lupus Autoantibodies Slip Through the NET. Antinuclear antibody (ANA) staining (green) of plasma from lupus-prone mice deficient in NADPH oxidase, which is required for neutrophil extracellular trap (NET) formation. NETs have been implicated as a source for lupus autoantigens; however, Campbell et al. demonstrate that Nox2-deficient lupus-prone mice had markedly exacerbated lupus. Indeed, the autoimmune antibody response is altered in lupus-prone mice deficient in NADPH oxidase compared with NADPH oxidase sufficient lupus-prone mice. [CREDIT: A. CAMPBELL/YALE UNIVERSITY]
