ONLINE COVER Why Men Get More Liver Cancer Than Women. Hepatitis B virus (black circles) infects liver cells, where it can cause cancer. The more the virus transcribes, the better it is at causing cancer. Androgen receptor in the infected liver cells accelerates this transcription: A viral binding site (red part of the circle) attracts the host's androgen receptors, shown here as red ovals, which activate viral transcription, accelerating cancer progression.
